TAFFMOG WINTER WEEKEND 2024
November 22 – November 24

Taffmog are again holding their Winter Weekend at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells.
It has been a popular event for several years with many returning attendees. Situated in Mid Wales in the Victorian spa town with access to many

areas both near and far giving options for drives to explore and enjoy Wales. The hotel caters for many car club events and has a large carpark, spa and lounges. On arrival Friday, you will be greeted with tea/coffee and welshcakes.

If you arrive early ( or even the night before) you
might have a chance to visit the hotel spa, local amenities or go for a drive.

A informal dinner will be available on Friday evening followed by a formal dinner on the Saturday night with welcome speeches and some light-hearted fun.
Saturday is the day to venture out and about, exploring as wide an area as you wish. There will be suggested routes of varying distance or you can just take a map and explore for yourself. There are plenty of lakes, mountains, valleys and historic sites to choose from.

Sunday is a day to relax, get ready to leave or stay in the hotel, or maybe even take the car on another adventure.

Bridgend Noggin. July.

The sun shone, in the midst of rainy dull days, we had our ray of sunshine. Carl and Jean had invited us for coffee at their beautiful farm cottage to start our July Noggin. We were welcomed royally with Welsh cakes and Bara brith. The men stayed chatting in the kitchen while the ladies talked in the dining room overlooking Carl’s magnificent roses. With the morning pushing towards lunchtime, we left to drive along the coast through Ogmore and across the cliffs at Southerndown, the sun sparkling on the sea. We made our way to Porthcawl for lunch where we met those just coming for lunch. Twenty three in all, a great turnout. So many in fact we ran out of seats, Denis formed a men’s club on an adjacent table and we all settled to eat lunch. Lots if chat about events we had taken part in and future events some will be taking part in. All in all it was a super day. The sun continued to shine for our journeys home. Thank you Liz and Denis for the route, Carl and Jean for your hospitality.

Hogs Head. Abergavenny.

Paul and Lesley Harris carried the flag for Taffmog at this year’s Hog’s Head car show near Abergavenny. The weather was dreadful. Hats off to both for getting up and getting out there. Next year we should all make the effort, it’s in a lovely spot and a great show. My excuse……. We were driving Naples to Sapri on the E45 in 35 degrees, sadly not in the Morgan.

Usk Noggin. July.

  1. 17 July. Blessed with a lovely sunny day Usk Mog met for their first luncheon meet.
Dave Rymer had organised a pre-lunch run from Usk, visiting Chepstow and the beautiful Forest of Dean before before arriving at the Three Salmons Hotel for lunch. We had one car (no names) who lost their way, but thankfully made it to the hotel for lunch. There were eventually 5 Morgan’s, 1 interloper and 4 tin-tops in the car park. Nineteen sat down to a lovely meal in our own private dining area. This was the first lunchtime ‘Noggin’ in the East, feedback from the Noggineers was very positive with everyone wishing to return to the Three Salmons Hotel.
It was lovely to meet and welcome Rhianon and Rob Marshall at their first noggin and hope they can join us for more in the future and we also welcomed John King returning to catching up with old friends.
The next ‘East Noggin’ will be an evening meet on 21st August 2024. Look out for details on tomes and venue for those Noggin.

Report from Lyn Webber on Shelley Walsh

Great day out at ‘Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia’, weather was kind and the hill climb exhilarating. Two TaffMogers were present. Looking forward to MogFest.

West Wales Noggin. July.

West Wales reported a quiet but otherwise pleasant Noggin. I could be that some members are on holiday, more attended that the previous month. The date for the August Noggin is the 16th at the Railway Inn Nantgaredig 7pm.

MogFest.

We set out full of enthusiasm into the gorgeous weather to travel north. Enthusiasm soon waned as an hour into the journey we had only just reached Brynglas tunnels. We then heard of the almost impossible conditions at Kidderminster and Worcester. We knew it must be bad when the GPS urged us on to different roads. We took the advice and had the most wonderful drive through the Shropshire countryside. All A&B roads and all in fair condition, suited the car and suited us. We may have not gained too much time but what a great drive.

Weston Park was all you would expect, straight from the set of a Jane Austen book. Beautiful gardens and a suitable venue to show off the cars. Parked in front of the house for the Consourse competition we soon became ‘to the Manor Born’.

Competition was fierce and fiery, dusters at 10am, soggy chamois to the fore we rubbed and scrubbed and beat the interior carpets to within an inch of their lives. The cars gleamed, owners beamed, sadly for us to no avail but it was really good fun. Worthy winners received prizes later in the day.

It was good to meet some of the great and good of the Morgan Sports Car Club. I feel we made new friends, stepped up to the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Although we didn’t attend the dinner in the evening, I did hear that it was very good and those that attended enjoyed the event. The next day there was a organised train ride. Those I spoke to said it was marvellous and they had had a great day riding the rails. Rail enthusiasts may like to know it was diesel out, steam back. We decided on aeroplanes, trains would have been a busman's holiday for us. We were close to Cosford…. so why not. It was the ultimate sacrifice for me but sometimes you have to keep your man happy.

Travelling home through the back roads, we avoided the motorways, they were still snarled up. We were so lucky the weather was perfect. A stop off at ‘The factory’ is a must if you are in the Malvern area, good for a break and some retail therapy of the Morgan kind. It was no surprise to see the Webber's and the Harris’s had had the same idea.

It was only as we were leaving that we bumped into a friend of a friend and asked him where the Midsummer was hidden. It was apparently back at the factory after being on display somewhere. He very kindly invited us to go with him and get a viewing. She is a beauty, totally unsuited to our weather but that didn’t mean I couldn’t window shop. Then the sad news, apparently they are all spoken for, all sold. We returned home exhausted, but what a great weekend.

The Extra Bit.

Watching an episode of Auto Mundial, they broadcast a very nice feature on the Midsummer. As you all know my mind can go off on strange tangents and this was the result.

Midsummer Madness.

Dressed immaculately in Italian couture

I would love to own one but I’m really not sure that topless would suit me, that teaks my colour splendid as it is,

without a windscreen my hair would be blown to a frizz:

And would my mascara run down on my face

As we dash through country lanes at breakneck pace.

Would I be admired for my sleek lines, would I attract the kind of attention that could end up with fines.

One hundred and thirty eight hours of barchetta manufacture, as much as I love it, that’s also a factor:

for the price you see could be out of my range;

But I just love the grill and those lights that are strange.

This signature Morgan in Midsummer disguise, pure perfection, is no surprise.

They can change the knobs, the whistles, the doors

But a Morgan’s a Morgan right up from the floor.

Here is a warning, there will only be fifty;

so if you fancy her chassis,

You’ll have to be nifty.
